I have always had a keen eye for the detritus of modern life and the slowly expiring materials of the natural world. For years I have squirreled away found objects in the notion that one day I may use them as part of some art….

As a kid me and my brother would haul back to our home untold amounts of junk which were then put in their respective boxes (yep we had boxes designated for wood, metal, plastics and so on) why? I will never know, maybe we planned to build the mother of all spaceships. I also have a vivid memory of wanting at any cost this electrical item that a fellow pupil at junior school possessed, it was small, weighed a ton and was probably a part of some engine. Anyhow I never did acquire that particular item and in retrospect the estate I lived on was probably not ready for a mini Cape Canaveral in its backyard. By far the strangest (and macabre) object that came in to my possession was a horses skull (I kid you not!) which I happened across in a back field. It was a furtive couple of days keeping that under wraps back home while I pondered the issue of what it was exactly I was going to do with it. As you can imagine my mother was not best pleased to find a skull in the shed!

Found objects are chosen for their aesthetic appeal or creative possibilities and sometimes just as a memento of a good time had..

This section is devoted to stuff that has ended up being used creatively one way or another. Generally there is no rhyme or reason to why I give a piece its own particular treatment, the process is spontaneous and off the cuff, with very little time spent on the actual putting together of ideas. I had it in mind when putting this section together that it would be pretty fun to see what other people do with found stuff, so if anyone reading this has there own ‘lost property’ and would like to give it a second home as well as sharing it with the world then please feel free to submit a good quality jpeg along with details of where it was originally found…dimensions…description of materials used and title of piece (if it has one). And anything else that may be of interest.

All submissions deemed suitable for publication here will remain the intellectual property of their respective owners and will be credited so (with link if you have one).

Submissions to be sent to: maclarensteph@gmail.com…
